Gainax Studio's Anime - Gurren Lagann

Gurren Lagann is a Japanese animation series that premiered on TV Tokyo in Japan. Directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi, it was made by Gainax studios. It ran for 27 episodes and won several awards at the Japan Media Arts Fair, Tokyo International Anime Fair and the Animation Kobe. A comic based from the show was dropped in 2007 and an arcade game for the Nintendo DS was finished that same year. In 2008 and 2009 respectively, OVA variations of the anime were shown in Japanese cinemas and shortly made available overseas. 

The series focuses around the idea that in the future, human citizens of the globe have been chased underground to survive. Forming towns to survive, they are always required to drive their colonies deeper into the earth due to unending destruction being done by constant earthquakes.

The main character, Simon, is an orphan miner, responsible for helping the dwellers of Giha, his home, to dig deeper into the Earth when needed. Simon is befriended by Kamina, another orphan digger, who has endless dreams of the land atop he was once able to peer quickly as a teenager. After several perils, Simon and Kamina join together to return to the surface world only to find that the inhabitants there are constantly pursued by dangerous creatures called Beastmen and Gunmen. Combined with other rebel people longing for freedom, they band together to defeat the tyrants and earn a finish to the horrid conditions they are being suffering to on an everyday basis.
