Gurren Lagann begun in Japan as an anime television series which unveiled 27 episodes. The event occurs in the future where humans are made to reside in isolation underground. The villagers have no contact with the exterior world and due to frequent earthquakes are forced to dig further into the earth, those assigned to the path of digging are called "Diggers". This town is home to an orphaned little one named Simon, whose parents were killed in an earthquake. Simon is known by the other folks as the most skilled of the diggers, he is however not well thought of by his peers. After talking to a fellow orphan named Kamina, who talks about going back the surface world, that he once saw as a child, he is drawn into his group "Team Gurren". Kamina is quickly jailed by a village elder after his lackluster attempt to get to the surface. Simon will soon discover the key to effectively break through the surface.
As the lagann entourage breaks through to the surface they are met by enemies and friends as they move on their path. Throughout their mission, Kamina is impaired and soon dies, leaving Team Gurren to fight the battle without him. A statue of Kamina lingers in the midst of a fresh town built among the toils of the past capitol, correctly titled Kamina City.
There is a video game for purchase. Also a series of books revolving around the magna. The movie, called Gurren Lagann: Childhood's End is now out on DVD.
